OntoSpecies Help

 

OntoSpecies is a tool for exploring the tree of life, either in its entirety or after selecting only organisms with specific properties like geographical location, relationship to diseases, or properties of known genes.

To expand the tree one level, click on the plus to the left of the name.

If a taxon has a grayed out box with a slash rather than a plus sign, that means the tree cannot be expanded further at that level.

More information including the full taxonomy and lifespan information (if available) is displayed in the upper gray panel when a taxon has been selected (clicked on). For individual species, the lifespan information displayed is maximum lifespan from one of two sources (AnAge or Longevity Records). When higher level taxa such as Chordata shown below, the lifespan displayed is the lifespan for the longest lived species in the taxa.

Once you have identified the taxon of interest, you can find more information by selecting a resource from the External Resources drop down menu.
